Ha ha, a Republican named "Crank" (none / 0)

That's great.  Like a mortician named Digger.

FYI, Grover Norquist's candidate was Lamborn.

This puts forward the religious right (none / 0)

Lamborn barely squeaked past Hefley's anointed successor Jeff Crank in a five-way. Lamborn has many years of conservative service in the Colorado Legislature.

This district polls strongly to the Republicans. Voter registration is D/R/I = 22-46-31, so we would need virtually all the Independents to vote democratic to pull off a win.

Jay Fawcett is a fine candidate to put forward in a district with so many military. Perhaps enough moderate republicans are tired of the Focus-on-the-Family dominance to abandon Lamborn... but we haven't seen the GOP in open civil war in district CO-05.

Colorado Confidential reports that Lamborn has had a lot of success pursuing donations from conservatives around the country.

That's right, retired conservatives across the land have come out in droves for Lamborn, egged on by the Club for Growth, the Washington-based outfit that wants to drive out the moderates. Club for Growth has endorsed Lamborn, and so have plenty of other ultraconservative groups, leaving his list of contributors reading like a who's who of the world of anti-government, anti-union, anti-choice, anti-immigrant. On a lighter side, Lamborn seems to like a gamble now and again.

There's more of us than there is of them.

Re: Live-Blogging Colorado Results [UPDATED] Surpr (none / 0)

The only way to win is to get 20% of the Republicans.  Can Fawcett do it?  All the "moderate" Rs lost in Colorado tonight, it seems.

If the Dems are ever going to get CD-5 under the current maps, this year is the year.
